"BigCommerce: A Clever Mix of Features and Oddities!"
Man, where do I even kick things off with BigCommerce? Let's chat about their app store first. It's honestly something else, a real gem in the realm of modern-day scams. Let me break down this captivating world of 'capabilities and perks' that should've been part of our so-called generous BigCommerce subscription.

First off, who really likes getting hit with charges for stuff that ought to have been included from the get-go? It’s like the cherry on top of a not-so-great ice cream sundae. Seriously, what's the point of having a subscription if you end up shelling out more cash for apps that should've been in the basic deal?

And we can't overlook BigCommerce's page builder – a tool so high-tech that it doesn’t even have an 'undo' option. It’s like stepping back into the era of Microsoft Paint from '98, but even Paint had an 'undo' feature. But hey, who needs to fix mistakes when you can just start fresh every time you mess up, right?

Connecting to different platforms is a walk in the park, needing just five separate steps. Who wants things to be straightforward when you can have a little complexity, confusion, and a sprinkle of chaos? And get ready for the exciting twist – duplicate accounts! That’s what happened with Google, and now our business is on hold because BigCommerce set up a duplicate account without us knowing, which goes against Google's rules.

But here’s the cherry on top of this already tasty cake – BigCommerce's genius move of keeping crucial features away from its users, only to sell them back in their app marketplace. I found their marketplace to be way more annoying than Shopify's, and let’s be real, nothing was cheap.

"BigCommerce: An Ingenious Wonderland of Features... and Quirks!"
Oh, where should I even start with BigCommerce? Let's begin with their app store. It's truly remarkable, a masterpiece in the world of modern-day scams. Allow me to shed some light on this enchanting realm of "abilities and features" that should have been included in our supposedly generous BigCommerce subscription.

To begin with, who doesn't enjoy being charged for things that should have been part of the package from the beginning? It's like the perfect finishing touch on a disappointing ice cream sundae. I mean, what's the purpose of having a subscription if you can't spend more money on apps that should have been included in the basic plan?

And let's not forget about BigCommerce's page builder – a tool so advanced that it lacks an 'undo' feature. It's like going back in time to the days of Microsoft Paint from 1998, except even Paint had an 'undo' button. But hey, who needs to undo mistakes when you can simply start over every time you make a blunder, right?

Connecting to platforms is a breeze, requiring only five different processes. Who needs simplicity when you can have complexity, confusion, and a touch of chaos? And brace yourself for the thrilling bonus – duplicate accounts! Because that's what happened with Google, and now our company is suspended because BigCommerce created a duplicate account without our knowledge, which violates Google's policies.

But here's the icing on this already delectable cake – BigCommerce's brilliant strategy of withholding essential features from its users, only to sell them back in their app marketplace. I found their marketplace to be 50 times more frustrating than Shopify's, not to mention that nothing was affordable.

"BigCommerce: A Total Disappointment for Ecommerce"
I got a free 2-month trial of BigCommerce to give their platform a whirl. At first, I was pretty impressed with what they had to offer. But man, things took a nosedive once the trial wrapped up.

I was really let down when I got no heads-up about the trial ending. Out of the blue, BigCommerce hit my bank account with a charge for their pricey Pro plan, which is a whopping $690 a month for businesses that move a lot of products. That’s just way too steep for a small shop like mine, which only moves 1-4 clothing items daily.

Trying to fix this mess, I reached out to BigCommerce's customer support to downgrade to their standard plan, which is $39 a month. Sadly, I dealt with some rude and unhelpful folks who wouldn’t refund my cash or help me out.

When I got in touch with their support team, I was hoping for a chat like:

"Oh wow, it looks like they put you on the wrong plan for your business. Let’s get this sorted. I’ll refund you and switch you to the standard plan. We’ll make sure you get proper notifications for future billing. Have a great day!"

But what I got was way off from that:

"Yeah, we can’t refund you since your trial is over. You should’ve known this. I guess you want to cancel your account? I’ve already started that process."

I really think BigCommerce is playing a predatory game. They lure in small businesses with free trials and then slap them with charges for their priciest plans without any warning. It feels like a trap to get businesses to pay for something they don’t even need. The lack of interest in keeping me as a customer by resolving the issue says a lot about how they view small businesses and their customers.

I strongly recommend that businesses steer clear of BigCommerce. They’re a predatory company that will take advantage of you whenever they can. Instead, check out other ecommerce platforms like Shopify or WooCommerce.

I’m really bummed that BigCommerce would act this way. I thought they’d be a solid choice for small businesses, but I was dead wrong. I urge everyone to avoid BigCommerce and look into other ecommerce options instead.

My experience with them was a total waste.

"Once a fan, now I'm totally over it."
I ran a Big Commerce site from 2012 to 2014 and was a huge fan. After a break, we came back in late 2017, and at first, everything seemed fine. But then Big Commerce suggested a developer to create our site, and they charged us a whopping $40,000. They built a fully custom site that only they could manage, aiming to rake in an extra $3000 to $4000 monthly. Honestly, that was the only good part of my time with Big Commerce, which says a lot about how things went downhill from there.

Finding someone who really knew the platform was a nightmare, and all the so-called "preferred partners" wanted at least $40,000. It felt like a total scam.

In 2020, I decided to strip away all the custom stuff and take charge of the site myself. As an enterprise client with level 2 support, I usually got decent help. But when business slowed down during the pandemic, I renegotiated my fee to $1000 a month in early 2023. Turns out, that wasn’t enough for good support. They dropped me to level one support, and often the staff seemed less informed than I was (and trust me, my knowledge is pretty basic). I just couldn’t deal with that, especially for the money I was shelling out. Plus, when I submitted a ticket, it would take weeks to get any response. Paying $1000 a month didn’t seem to get me much in the way of support. I even reached out to the CEO, who told me they wouldn’t help me at all. So, I decided to move my store to Shopify Plus. Funny enough, I managed to build the Shopify Plus store all by myself, even though I had zero experience with website creation. The tools Shopify offers made it super easy to create a site that outshone my Big Commerce site in every way. I can’t stress enough how much better Shopify’s features are. Whenever I needed assistance while building my Shopify site, I just called their support, and they walked me through everything.

I tried contacting Big Commerce three times to ask them to put my site on hold so I could access my historical data. It took three emails before they finally got back to me. When I tried to migrate my store, their export tools made it impossible to format orders correctly for any other platform. When I finally got a response from Big Commerce about putting my sites on hold, they had the nerve to try and increase my rate, even though I wouldn’t be using the site. They wanted $1040 a month for no traffic and no revenue, just to access my historical data. It felt like I had landed on another planet. It’s just ridiculous. Do yourself a favor and switch to Shopify or Shopify Plus. They provide way better support and an all-around superior platform.

"I used to be a fan, but I am completely done with it now."
I had a Big Commerce site from 2012 to 2014 that I absolutely loved. We took a break from the platform and returned in late 2017. Initially, things went smoothly. However, Big Commerce recommended a developer to build our site, who charged us $40,000. They created a fully custom site that only they could work on, with the intention of earning an additional $3000 to $4000 per month. Surprisingly, this was the positive part of my experience with Big Commerce, which speaks volumes about how bad it became.

Finding someone knowledgeable about the platform was nearly impossible, and all the "preferred partners" charged no less than $40,000. It felt like a scam and a racket.

In 2020, I decided to remove all the customizations and manage the site myself. As an enterprise client with dedicated level 2 support, I generally received helpful assistance. However, due to slower business during the pandemic, I renegotiated my rate to $1000 per month in early 2023. Apparently, this amount was not enough to receive decent support. They downgraded me to level one support, and often the support staff knew less than I did (which is surprising, as I have very limited knowledge). I didn't have the patience for this, especially considering the amount of money I was paying. Additionally, when I raised a ticket, weeks would go by without any action or response. It seems that paying only $1000 per month doesn't entitle you to any decent support at all. I reached out to the CEO, who personally informed me that they wouldn't do anything to assist me. As a result, I moved my store to Shopify Plus. Interestingly, I was able to build the Shopify Plus store entirely on my own, despite having no prior experience in website building. The tools provided by Shopify made it easy to create a site that was far superior to my Big Commerce site in every aspect. I can't emphasize enough how much better the features are on Shopify. Whenever I needed help during the Shopify site building process, I simply called Shopify support and they guided me through it.

I contacted Big Commerce three times to request putting my site on hold so that I could access historical data. It took three emails for them to finally respond. When attempting to migrate the store, the format used by their export tools made it impossible to correctly format orders for any other platform. When I finally heard back from Big Commerce about putting my sites on hold, they had the audacity to try and raise my rate, even though I wouldn't be actively using the site. They wanted $1040 per month for no traffic and no revenue, just to have access to historical data. It felt like I had woken up on another planet. It's unbelievable. Do yourself a favor and switch to Shopify or Shopify Plus. They offer superior support and an incredibly superior platform.

"BigCommerce is an absolute nightmare of an ecommerce platform."
I was given a complimentary 2-month trial of BigCommerce to test out their platform. Initially, I was impressed with the features and functionality it offered. However, my experience quickly turned sour after the trial period ended.

To my disappointment, I received no prior warning or notification about the trial ending. Instead, BigCommerce automatically charged my bank account for their top-tier Pro plan, which costs an exorbitant $690 per month for businesses that sell a large number of products. This amount is completely unreasonable for a small shop like mine, which only sells 1-4 apparel items per day.

In an attempt to resolve the issue, I reached out to BigCommerce customer support and requested a downgrade to their standard plan, priced at $39 per month. Unfortunately, I encountered rude and unhelpful representatives who refused to refund my money or address the situation.

When I contacted their support team to seek a resolution, I expected a conversation along the lines of:

"Oh wow, it seems they put you on an inappropriate plan for your business. Let's sort this out. I've refunded the amount and switched you to the standard plan. We'll make sure you receive proper notification and reminders for future auto-billing invoices. Have a great day, etc."

However, the reality was far from my expectations:

"Yeah, we can't refund you since your 2-month trial has ended. You should have known this. I assume you want to cancel your account with us? Well, I've already initiated the process on my end."

I strongly believe that BigCommerce intentionally engages in predatory practices. They target small businesses with free trials and then automatically charge them for their most expensive plans without any warning. This is a clear attempt to trap businesses into paying for a service they don't actually need. The fact that they showed no interest in retaining me as a customer by easily resolving the situation speaks volumes about their regard for small businesses and customers.

I strongly advise businesses to steer clear of BigCommerce. They are a predatory company that will take advantage of you whenever they can. Instead, I recommend considering other ecommerce platforms like Shopify or WooCommerce.

I am deeply disappointed that BigCommerce would engage in such predatory practices. I had hoped they would be a reliable platform for small businesses, but I was clearly mistaken. I strongly urge businesses to avoid BigCommerce and explore other ecommerce platforms instead.

My time with them was a complete waste.

"Avoid this platform at all costs."
The BigCommerce page builder is really lacking, not even close to what you'd expect. If you're looking for extra features, be ready to shell out almost double the monthly fee. Plus, when I tried to use the headless version, it was clear that the support team had no clue about it. I also ran into problems tracking the data I needed for conversions and growth. It seems like BigCommerce doesn't care about these issues as long as they get their money. Once again, the support staff was totally lost, and the documentation they provided was a joke. On top of that, I couldn't switch the language settings to my own, which made my site look unprofessional. Even though I haven't even launched my site yet and I'm just a few months into my subscription, they flat out refuse to give me a refund. So, do yourself a solid and look for other options, especially if you're a small or new webshop, and definitely if you don't want your site in English.

"I strongly advise against staying here."
The page builder in BigCommerce is extremely inadequate, far from satisfactory. If you desire additional features, you will have to pay nearly double the monthly cost. Furthermore, when I attempted to use the headless version, it became apparent that the support team was completely unaware of this option. Subsequently, I encountered another issue with tracking the necessary data for conversions and growth. However, BigCommerce seems to have no concern for this matter as long as they receive payment. Once again, the support team was clueless and the documentation provided was laughable. Additionally, I was unable to change the language settings to my native language, resulting in an unprofessional appearance for my website. Despite not even launching my website yet, and only a few months into my subscription, they adamantly refuse to provide any form of refund. Therefore, I strongly urge you to do yourself a favor and seek alternatives, particularly if you are a small or starting webshop, and especially if you do not want an English website.

"Not Fit for Purpose: Lacks Real Enterprise Features"
We spent an entire month figuring out that the checkout issue was actually something they already knew about. Then, it took a staggering six months for them to sort out a glitch that was wiping out orders, even when payments went through. Now, we’re dealing with yet another problem where putting an existing product into a new category messes with the URL. This is a total mess for our SEO, as our site is now riddled with 404 errors. BigCommerce is painfully slow to tackle these basic problems. They give us zero updates on our tickets or any progress. Our account managers just tell us there’s no movement, with a sort of virtual shrug. Because of this, our key clients are getting anxious, and some are even thinking about jumping ship to a better platform. Honestly, it’s tough to imagine a platform worse than this one.

"This product is not suitable for its intended purpose. It claims to have enterprise-level capabilities, but in reality, it falls short and feels more like a small-scale operation run from someone's bedroom."
It took us a whole month to discover that the checkout flaw was actually a known issue. And then, it took a whopping six months for them to fix a bug that was causing orders to be deleted even when payments were successful. Now, we're facing yet another bug where adding an existing product to a new category automatically changes the URL. This is a complete disaster for our SEO efforts, as our site is now flooded with 404 errors. BigCommerce is extremely slow when it comes to addressing these fundamental issues. They provide absolutely no visibility into the status of our tickets or any progress being made. Our account managers simply inform us that there is no progress, accompanied by a virtual shrug. As a result, our major clients are becoming restless and some are even considering switching to a better platform. It's hard to find a platform worse than this.
